FAQ: FAQ

HOW EXPERIENCED ARE YOU IN DIAGNOSING WOMEN?

We have many years experience of diagnosing women. We use the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R) as we feel this is more sensitive to picking up a female presentation than some of the other tools used.

HOW IS THE ASD ASSESSMENT CONDUCTED?

We offer a multidisciplinary diagnostic assessments in two parts. Your will first meet with me for 2 to 2.5 hours to complete the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R), which is a gold standard diagnostic interview schedule that maps on the diagnostic criteria for autism. This part of the assessment is best done with an informant present, such as family member, a parent, sibling or a friend. If that is not feasible, it is usually possible to do it anyway with yourself only. I will then refer you on to meet with a colleague consultant psychiatrist to complete a clinical interview of over 1 hour. Both assessments are usually held online using video link.

CAN YOU DO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WORK RELATED REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS?

Yes, we can help you with that. Some people are happy with a more generic letter that can be used for employers to verify the diagnosis without disclosing too much personal information. If you want more specific recommendations, we often need to spend another hour to specifically assess your work needs so that we can make specific recommendations to your current employer about the type of adjustments that would be helpful for you.

HOW SOON CAN I BE SEEN?

This varies on a monthly basis but this year we have managed to book everyone in for the first part of the assessment within 4 weeks from the booking confirmation. The second part is usually scheduled 3-6 weeks after that.

HOW MUCH DOES A DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT COST?

The cost of the full assessment is £1000 including report.
